1. Statement of Intent
- At ArkasFD Limited, we are committed to ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of our employees, clients, and all others who may be affected by our operations. As a specialist provider of fire door inspection services, we recognize the critical importance of maintaining high safety standards in all aspects of our work.
- We aim to prevent accidents and cases of work-related ill health by managing health and safety risks in the workplace and on client sites.
2. Responsibilities
- Management is responsible for implementing this policy, ensuring that health and safety procedures are followed, and that all staff are adequately trained and equipped.
- Employees are expected to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions.
- 3. Risk Management
- We will:
- Conduct regular risk assessments for all inspection activities.
- Ensure all fire door inspections are carried out in accordance with relevant legislation and industry standards (e.g., BS 8214, Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005).
- Provide appropriate PPE and tools for safe inspection work.
- Maintain safe access and egress at all inspection sites.
4. Training and Competence
- All employees will receive:
- Induction training covering general health and safety.
- Specific training on fire door inspection procedures, working at height, manual handling, and use of tools and equipment.
- Ongoing refresher training and updates on changes in legislation or best practices.
5. Accident and Incident Reporting
- All accidents, near misses, and hazardous situations must be reported immediately. We will investigate all incidents to identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
6. Emergency Procedures
- We will ensure that:
- Emergency procedures are in place and communicated to all staff.
- Employees are aware of site-specific emergency arrangements when working on client premises.
- First aid kits are available and maintained.
7. Monitoring and Review
- This policy will be reviewed annually or following any significant changes in our operations or legislation. We will monitor health and safety performance through regular audits and inspections.

- Property owners are responsible for ensuring that regular maintenance of fire resisting doors is put in place (Workplace Fire Precautions Regulations, 1997).
- New build and replacement emergency exit devices are now required to comply with European safety standards EN 1125 and EN 179, replacing withdrawn BS 5725:1981.
- Sufficient risk assessments regarding inspection – maintenance – repair & replacement is always carried out by our site teams prior to starting work at every site
- Door closers and door widths must always be designed in a manner which makes them accessible to the disabled (Part III of Disability Discrimination Act, 1995), (BS 8300:2001).
